Target corporate got rid of its maternity clothes section to make the clearance section bigger. Recession indicator?
My therapist is worried about fertilizer prices and global famine.
There’s a whole book written about how crippling a country’s basic science research will stunt a society and lead to its inevitable conquest by a superior power. It’s called The Three Body Problem. Oh geez, I wonder what will happen with all these NSF cuts… I’m learning Mandarin just so I can read scientific literature in retirement. I’m expecting a shift like what we saw when the language of biology went from German to English after Germany began to have certain “issues” in the 20th century.
I read Technofeudalism: What Killed Capitalism this past week. Its description of how AI is going to control advertising sounded exactly like Cobb’s description of being an architect in Inception. He states that the subject’s mind is continuously and simultaneously creating and observing, without the mind noticing. “This allows us to get right in the middle of that process by taking over the creating part” (character’s rough sketch below). Tell me this isn’t how an AI advertisement is refined through you consuming and responding to online content. Look at something 0.5 seconds? Okay no real feedback. The user stares at it for 3 seconds? Positive feedback. Generate more images/video/audio like that and see what sticks. Iterate and reiterate. Countless times during a 2-hour scrolling session.

That’s all for now
